I have created 2 social networking sites along the Wasatch front in Utah with all the features of facebook and myspace. I've created one for Weber State, one for the University of Utah. They are websites dedicated solely to the students of these respective schools, a place where they can come meet their classmates online, chat, upload pictures, send messages, leave profile comments, create events to invite people to, sell text-books, etc. I spent 3 weeks advertising the Weber State site on facebook during the spring semester, and got about 150 users, so I know there is a demand for sites like this. Have not began to advertise the site for the U yet. These websites are a great opportunity for someone with some marketing savvy. Revenue sources can come from either ads on the website, or you have the option to charge a membership fee to the students... it's up to you. The website requires no programming experience, and has a super-friendly admin section. I spent 6 months researching and developing these sites, but my current business ventures are keeping me too busy to pay adequate attention to these websites.
